Google Yourself Lately?

If you have a business website, more than likely you need your site to rank well in the Google “organic” search results. In other words, people need to find your site when searching Google.

Recently Google has made some important changes to its search algorithm that could have a direct impact on your individual website search results.

We want all of our customers (and potential customers) to know about two new and very significant changes recently implemented by Google. Look through the information below and contact us if you have questions or request a no obligation free quote.

A few small changes could help improve your rankings!

Mobile-Friendly Websites

Research is confirming that more and more people are using their mobile devices (phones and tablets) to surf the web. Starting in early 2015, Google began expanding its use of mobile-friendliness (responsive) as a ranking signal. This change will affect all mobile searches worldwide and will have a significant impact on your Google search results. Consequently, users searching from a mobile device will find it easier to get relevant, high quality search results only if sites are optimized for all mobile devices.

If you don’t have a website that is mobile friendly (there is a link on the web page below to test your site for mobile-friendliness), Alkon can provide you with several options for updating your website so that it will be entirely friendly to all mobile devices (phones, tablets, laptops, etc.).

Use SSL To Help Google Rankings

Google has already started to use HTTPS as a ranking signal. For years, most informational websites didn’t use an encrypted (https) connection because there was no need to do so and the cost was simply much too expensive. Over the past few years, the cost for an SSL certificate has steadily gone down.

Typically an SSL certification was generally only used on websites making secure financial transactions or displaying or sharing confidential information. As of early 2015, this change in Google’s algorithm is only affecting a small number of global search queries, but over time it will become more important and Google is strongly encouraging all website owners to switch from HTTP to HTTPS.
